In the current economic climate, companies are seeking ways to cut costs and increase efficiencies in their businesses. To survive in today's market, businesses are having to do with less. Unfortunately, many businesses never take the time to examine their business processes from beginning to end. That dynamic is changing as many companies are seeking to optimize back-end processes such as the mailroom. Mailrooms are costly, archaic systems that are both labor intensive and ecologically burdensome.

How a company handles its mail can affect its bottom line. As more businesses look at economy of scale, they are turning to technology and those that provide it to reduce their costs. And since manual paper handling starts in the mailroom, it is the natural place for the elimination of paper to begin.

However, the implementation of digital mail has met its share of resistance. It is estimated that less than five percent of mailrooms are outfitted with digital mail solutions. The process is relatively new and there is no real data to support the financial aspects of owning or running a digital mail center.
