Alfresco Cited As A Leader In ECM Business Content Services By Independent Research Firm

Leading enterprise content management (ECM) solution provider Alfresco Software announced recently that it was cited as a Leader in ECM business content services in The Forrester Wave: ECM Business Content Services, Q3 2015 evaluation. Alfresco was one of 11 companies that Forrester invited to participate in this evaluation.

“Alfresco Software provides a strong offering for ECM, particularly for customers that value interoperability, usability, hybrid cloud alternatives, and support for open standards and APIs,” the report says. “Alfresco has demonstrated a solid capacity to displace traditional ECM implementations due to relatively modern architecture, experienced partners, and its subscription-based pricing model. Increased investment in BPM with its Activiti project promises to bring it into a broader set of ECM opportunities over time.”

Worldwide, Forrester estimates enterprise content management to be a market worth $9B in 2015 and growing – according to its report nearly 90 percent of current ECM decision-makers plan to expand their rollouts over the next year. The report also acknowledges the growing need to work with external stakeholders — customers, partners, regulators, and citizens — is changing how professionals assess their vendors and prioritize requirements. Particularly, the report notes that better search and sharing of content are top business drivers behind an ECM deployment. In addition, digitization of business processes and regulatory or legal compliance are important.

“New workers have expectations to do their jobs in ways most convenient to them – while the volume of content explodes and the traditional IT architecture falls away,” Alfresco Co-Founder and CTO John Newton said. “Next-generation ECM systems must support the now commonplace ‘work anywhere’ norms as well as seamless, secure collaboration with external business partners. Likewise, it is of equal importance for business users to have simple tools to automate and manage their content-centric processes. Companies that adopt a new approach to ECM and BPM can unlock new business value from their content and empower people to do and share great work.”

According to the Forrester report, traditional ECM vendors were initially slow to meet user demand for simpler web and mobile interfaces, intuitive search and simple sharing with internal and external users. However, the report notes that since the 2013 Forrester Wave:

  • Vendors have embraced the requirement to share content with external parties.
  • Search has continued to evolve with faceted, conceptual, and semantic approaches.
  • Analytics and data visualization have remained in an early delivery phase.

The report also notes that it expects interest in cloud to increase in the coming years.
